Barcelona and the Best Parents Ever

Last night, my parents decided to take me to one of my favorite Tapas restaurants, Barcelona.

My first order of business was nabbing a delicious red wine to go with dinner.  I quickly decided on a big 'ole glass of the Malbec Rhapsodia.  Gotta love a good Malbec!

Their menu was jam-packed with delicious tapas, and my dad gave me the task of picking out which tapas to get!  I decided on:
  • Herbed Goat Cheese & Mushrooms
  • Patatas Bravas
  • Chicken Empanadas
  • Grilled Hangar Steak with Truffle Vinaigrette
  • Sopa with Clams, Mussels, Scallops and Lobster

Since we frequent this restaurant often, we got a lot of other menu items on the house, including some fried brussel sprouts (sounds awful but they were the best tapas I had!) and some cheese croquettes.

And the best part of all?  Dessert was on the house, too!  Aren't we lucky?  I told my dad it was because they thought he looked like Brad Pitt.  He got a kick out of that.  :-)  My favorite of the desserts were the amazing crepes stuffed with dolce de leche and homemade whipped cream.  Easily one of the best desserts I have ever had!

All in all, we had an amazing dinner together.  We talked, and joked, and laughed, and it was just a fantastic evening.  At one point, while they were talking, I just grabbed my glass of wine and sat back and just looked at my parents and thought about how wonderful they are.

My parents are seriously the best parents on Earth, and I will gladly battle anyone who thinks that their moms and pops might be the best.  Not only do they offer to take me out to dinner at least once a month at the restaurant of my choosing, but they have always been the most supportive people and my biggest fans.  They have experienced my highest highs and my lowest lows, and they have been there for me throughout all of these life experiences.

At dinner, I thought about how blessed I actually am to have such a loving and nurturing support system.  I have realized lately how some people do not grow up with family situations like mine, and it has made me feel really blessed to know exactly how lucky I am to have a wonderful mother and father who not only love me and my sister, but still love each other conditionally.  Your upbringing can definitely shape who you grow up to be and how you cope with life, and although a lot of people can overcome their tumultuous upbringing, I don't think it is commonplace.  I am very lucky to have had supporting parents who care about me, because it has shaped me into the loving and supportive person I am today.  I would not be here without them.  :-)

Love you Mom and Dad! <3
