How to Curl Your Hair

A year ago, back in August 2010, I was selected to take part in a hair makeover spread for Self Magazine.  There were 4 girls, each of us with a common hair dilemma.  Since my hair is thin and very straight, my hair makeover was to create wavy curls that stay put.  With the help of  top New York City hair stylist, Antonio Prieto (think $300 per haircut!!!), I learned how to properly prep my hair, curl it, and then top it off with finishing touches to create a beautiful curly hairstyle that lasts all day long!

On top of the 4 page magazine spread, they did a video for the Self magazine website chronicling each girl's hair makeover.  I totally forgot about my video until today, since it seems like it was so long ago, and I thought it might be a useful resource who those of you who are as inept at hair styling as I am.  With a little practice, I was able to master the hair technique on my own.  Oh, and you'll be able to see what a goofball I am, because I can hardly keep a straight face for most of the video.  Enjoy!

Briefly,

1.  I apply Kerastase Nutritive Mousse throughout dry hair, and blow dry upside down to create texture and volume.

2.  I curl hair away from my face while holding the curl very tightly for about 10 seconds.

3.  I flip my hair upside down, spray hairspray underneath and all around, then flip head back.

4.  Pull apart curls with your fingers to create a more natural look.   Use hairspray as necessary.

Question of the Day:

What do you think of the curls?  Should I do this hairstyle more often, or keep it straight?  Do you curl your hair often?  If so, what are your tips/tricks?
