Lavagna

On Saturday night, I accompanied friends to a quaint Italian restaurant in the East Village, cutely named Lavagna.

We were desperately craving Italian food, and since it was moderately-priced as well as a NY Magazine Critics' Pick restaurant, we knew it would be a great option.   The restaurant is almost a hole in the wall, since it is located on a relatively unpopulated and quiet side street in the bustling East Village.  It had a cozy and quaint feel to it, as a result of its small size and due to the fact that it was completely lit by candlelight.  I sincerely apologize for the quality of the upcoming photos due to the dimly lit restaurant in which I did not want to use the flash on my camera.

I started off with a glass of Pinot Grigio, while everyone else had water.  Looking back, I guess I have no problem drinking alone!

The menu consisted of a wide variety of antipasti, insalate, pasta dishes, meat and fish, as well as pizza from their wood-burning oven.  To supplement my vigorous sprint triathlon training with some much-needed carbohydrates, I opted for a pasta dish, and everyone else decided to follow suit by ordering their favorite pasta dish as well.

After much internal debate, I ordered the sweet pea ravioli with cream sauce and a hint of mint, and boy, was I pleased with my dish!  It was absolutely delicious, and I could have had a second helping after I cleared my plate!

I will definitely come back to this cozy and delicious restaurant in the near future!

Question of the Day:

Do you have a favorite restaurant that is not well known?  I am always looking for interesting restaurants in new places!
